This fan favorite withdrew from the Truist...

What started as a limited-field of 72 has shrunk into the 60s on Sunday with the latest withdrawal from the Truist Championship in Flourtown, Pennsylvania. Sahith Theegala became the latest of the PGA Tour?s walking wounded at this week?s signature event at Philadelphia Cricket Club?s Wissahickon Course to fail to make it through 72 holes. Theegala, 27, withdrew on Sunday morning before the final round citing a neck injury. It’s the first time in 116 career Tour starts that Theegala has withdrawn from a tournament.
After opening with rounds of 69-71, Theegala shot 8-over 78 on Saturday, including a triple-bogey 8 on the 15th hole and was in last place entering the final round. He was scheduled to tee off in the first group of the day at 8 a.m. local time alongside Garrick Higgo. Theegala, who finished third in the 2024 FedEx Cup, is mired in a slump this season. He was making his 14th start and only has two top-25 finishes to show for it. His best result was a T-17 at the Genesis Invitational in February. He entered the week at No. 104 in the FedEx Cup standing and his world ranking has dipped to No. 31. Theegala is scheduled to compete in next week?s PGA Championship. It is unclear the severity if the injury - whether he withdrew out of an abundance of caution ahead of a major championship or if he will be forced to miss an extended period of time - but it is something to monitor going forward. Theegala has one career Tour title and earned a spot on last year?s U.S. Presidents Cup team.
On Saturday, Michael Kim (back) and Justin Rose (illness) both withdrew, too. The field in the final round will consist of 69 players. ?Back wasn?t great to start the week and aggravated it during the last two days,? wrote Kim, who played 12 holes in 3-over par Saturday before withdrawing, on X. ?Will get treatment and look to get back as soon as possible.? Rose, 44, also said he intends to rest up for Quail Hollow and the PGA Championship next week. “After becoming progressively ill over the past few days, I have made the unfortunate decision to withdraw,” Rose posted on X. “I am not in a state to complete (sic), and it?s best for me to focus on a quick recovery prior to next week.” This article originally appeared on Golfweek: Truist Championship 2025: Sahith Theedala withdraws Sunday morning
