FSU mens golf takes commanding 14 stroke...

Florida State men’s golf is one round away from winning the NCAA Tallahassee Regional and booking a spot in the NCAA national title tournament. The Seminoles lead the regional with a combined team score of -21 and have a 14-stroke advantage over second-place Ole Miss, who are -7. Junior Luke Clanton is the tournament leader at -12 after shooting a second consecutive 66 at Seminole Legacy Golf Club.

Clanton’s -12 would put him in second place in tournament play, five strokes clear of Ole Miss. As a team, FSU shot -7 in round two, the low round of the day, to follow up a -14 first round. “They came out today exactly like we wanted them to with the same mentality as we had yesterday,” FSU head coach Trey Jones said. “We had some eagles on the fourth hole early on, which kind of set the tone. From there, the golf course played harder today, so it was a little bit more of a challenge for them. They had to fight a little harder as a group.” Graduate student Gray Albright shot a 69 (-3) in round two to surge into tied third place. He carded five birdies and two bogeys through his 18, and nearly recorded a hole-in-one at the par-three 15th hole, to have the second-lowest round of the day for a Seminole player. For both Albright and Clanton, the third round of the regional will be the final at Seminole Legacy for the pair. Albright’s eligibility will be exhausted at the end of the season, and Clanton will turn pro after earning his PGA Tour card.

“We were laughing earlier, when he[Albright] walks up 18 tomorrow, it’ll be like [Jack] Nicklaus walking over the bridge at St. Andrews,” Jones said. “It’ll be Luke’s last, too, Luke’s turning pro after this. When they both come up 18, hopefully we’ve got a lot of people who come out to give them the appreciation and thanks Seminole golf has and what it means to Tallahassee.” Albright called it bittersweet to be playing his final round, but he’s excited to compete for a title. “I know it will be cool coming up 18 tomorrow for sure, I’ll definitely be a little sad to have my last competitive round out here happen tomorrow,” Albright said. “It will be really cool, I’m excited for it.“NCAA Tallahassee Regional top 5 on the leaderboard
