scottie Scheffler Gave His Caddie, Ted Scott, an Earful After a Water BallAfter finding the water at the par-3 16th, Scottie Scheffler let Ted Scott hear it: “We get the wind wrong and I’m in the water I don’t think you understand how frustrating that is. “When Scottie Scheffler made the turn on Thursday, it looked like he was on his way to a third straight Memorial title.

Now, he very well could win again come Sunday afternoon, but the vibes weren’t great on his way back to the clubhouse. The World No. 1 played his first nine holes of the day in 2-under 34, but his second half wasn’t as friendly.

He made a bogey at 10 after flubbing a chip, a shot he never looked comfortable over. A few holes later, he yanked a wedge into a greenside bunker at the 14th and failed to get up and down. Then, the fireworks came.

RELATED:How to Watch the Memorial TournamentWith 7-iron in hand, scheffler took dead aim at the flagstick on the par-3 16th, maybe in frustration after making five at the par-5 15th, but his ball came up short-left of the green and splashed to a watery grave. In utter disbelief, Scheffler gave his caddie, Ted Scott, an earful after taking a moment to himself. “I never thought that was in the water, I don’t know what to do…I feel like that was a good shot…now I’m in the water,” he said.

“We get the wind wrong and I’m in the water. I don’t think you understand how frustrating that is…I’m hitting good shots and dropping from hazards. “We don’t see many moments like this from the world’s best player, but when we do, it’s jarring every single time.

“Just another really good iron shot, and the wind switched from down off the right to pretty significantly in off the right,” he told the media afterward. “So just don’t really know what I’m supposed to do there outside of trying to hit a good shot, and then it’s frustrating when it doesn’t work out.. It can be very frustrating sometimes when you feel like you’re hitting good shots and then you’re going to the drop zone.

“To his credit, he came back to make a birdie on 17 after finishing the par 3 with a double bogey. After a par on 18, Scheffler signed for a 1-over 73. He’s six shots back after 18 holes and has some work to do over the next few days to get near the bottom of the tee sheet come Sunday.
